Exam questions may ask you to describe or to explain the points of view of Christianity or Islam towards sex outside marriage. To get good marks you need to recognise that sex outside marriage is a general term that covers a number of different circumstances:

1. Pre-marital sex (Sex before marriage) – Two single people who plan to marry have sex before they marry.

2. Extra-martial sex – Two people have sex without the intention of marrying later on.

3. Homosexual relationships – A gay or lesbian couple have sex.

4. Adultery – Two people have sex when one or both of them is married to someone else.
